Young players have to go through a learning process in all areas to improve. We try to simulate as many situations as possible in practice to speed up the process.

We are currently in negotiations with top schools to start a series with. Non-conference games this year against Boston College and Alabama we're good tests for our young ball club. We traveled on the road for four games this year, two more than any other BIG EAST team. As far as asking for it to be tougher, you could make a case that ours was the toughest.

Jake,

The area is much smaller than the NBA's painted area. It is from the front of the rim to the backboard that you are unable to take a charge in. I believe they will eventually paint a line further out from the basket.

All the Best,

Keno Davis

Dan,

I have my assistant Pat Skerry in charge of our substitutions during the game. I meet with him prior to each game and let him know the range of minutes that I would like to see each player get.

All the Best,

Keno Davis

We have used the 1-2-1-1 press at times in all of our non-conference games this year. Most likely, we will use it more in the future as our personnel changes through our recruiting efforts.

We will look at all scheduling opportunities in the future.  The RPI number is significant towards post-season play and we will look to improve that through our non-conference schedule.

Gary,

It is difficult for players to not be disappointed about their playing time regardless of what year they are in school. We focus our time with those players on individual skill improvement. We also evaluate each player constantly and how many minutes we feel they deserve in a game.

Richard,

I have three assistants that are able per NCAA rules to recruit off-campus (Pat Skerry, Rodell Davis, and Chris Davis). They each work extremely hard to bring the best student-athletes to Providence as possible. On the court, Coach Skerry focuses on rebounding, Coach Rodell Davis on the offense, and Coach Chris Davis on the defense. More information on each assistant is available at www.friars.com.

All the Best,

Keno Davis

Matthew,

Our non-conference schedule will include Alabama, Boston College and Rhode Island next year. We are also planning on playing in a Cancun tournament which should have some very good competition.

I do believe that nonconference tournaments are beneficial to our team. We are always trying to prepare for post season play where we would have a short turn-around after a victory.  Also, the opportunity to be able to play top level teams on a neutral site is always a plus.

The big difference of coaching in the BIG EAST versus the Missouri Valley is the level of talent and the recruiting revolving around the top players in the country.  We are trying to recruit players that have not yet seen our true style, but only a glimpse of what we will be in the future.

Sharaud is a true point guard that is also a very good outside shooter.  At times, I would expect him to be the only point guard on the court and the other times we will play with two point guards.

The best place to check for gear is at www.friars.com. I know they are working on more available jerseys and shorts for the future.

Having a throw back game is something we have discussed. We are still trying to figure out if some of our guys can fit in those short shorts!

The substitutions that my father utilized were unique in that the starters had a lot of control regarding their minutes.  We are working towards a similar patter for the future.

Our staff looks for players that play hard on both ends of the court.  If they come into college with a great work ethic they have an ability to improve in all areas.

Yes. Although I would rather have a student-athlete here for four years, I understand that the best thing for his future might be to take a guaranteed contract in the NBA. We would have an understanding that I would still expect him to progress toward a degree in the future.

My favorite Friar moment was Senior Night last season. There was great support from our fans for the outgoing seniors and they were rewarded with a never-to-forget victory over No. 1 Pittsbugh.

He was the Head Basketball and Cross Country coach at Milledgeville High School in Illinois.

We haven’t altered our general strategy for the year or the long term future. Our strategy is based on versatile players playing an uptempo style.

If the July “live” recruiting period were eliminated, more recruiting would take place during our school year.  The more attention we can give our current student-athletes, the better chance they will have for long-term success.

Last season, the on campus facilities of Villanova and Connecticut had the best home court advantage of places we played.  It is a goal of ours to make the Dunkin’ Donuts Center more of a home court advantage each season.

Our team is involved with many charitable organizations.  We are currently organizing an effort to become more active with local elementary schools and their reading programs.  Expect a feature story to come.

The up-tempo style that we are known for has come from my background of working for my father, Dr. Tom Davis and from Bruce Pearl, currently the head coach at Tennessee.  The man-to-man principles of defense came from my six years as an assistant under Gary Garner at Southeast Missouri State University.

Technology allows you to be pro-active in getting information out about your program.  Recruits are becoming more aware of every detail about the colleges recruiting them.  I expect to see a direct correlation with those programs on the upswing, and those that utilize technology the best.
